Chen Shui-bian
Chen Shui-bian (born October 12, 1950) is a former Taiwanese politician who was the fifth President of the Republic of China from 2000 to 2008. Chen, whose Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has traditionally been supportive of Taiwan independence, ended more than fifty years of Kuomintang (KMT) rule in Taiwan.

On September 11, 2009, Taiwan's former President, Chen Shui-bian, and his wife, Wu Shu-jen, were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Taipei District Court, in a 1,415-page verdict (more than half of which comprises appended tables of data).

Taiwan prosecutors filed a new indictment against former president Chen Shui-bian Wednesday, less than two weeks after Chen was sentenced to life in prison on other corruption charges.
